Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a dramatic challenge to Vladimir Putin in an open letter, demanding an immediate end to the five-year invasion. “If you choose to continue this war, Ukraine will fight for its survival,” Zelensky warned the Kremlin leader. “But you will have to fight for your own.”
Kyiv – Tensions in Eastern Europe have reached a boiling point. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has initiated a direct confrontation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. In an open letter that has sent shockwaves through the diplomatic community, Zelensky made it clear that Russia will not succeed in its goal of occupying the Donetsk region this year.
The War as Putin’s Personal Choice
In his bold message, Zelensky left no doubt about who he believes is responsible for the ongoing bloodshed. He denounced the Russian invasion, now in its fifth year, as a “personal choice” made by Putin—a war waged without any legitimate justification.
The Ukrainian president also offered a potential diplomatic exit strategy. He proposed a face-to-face meeting with Putin and expressed Kyiv’s readiness to uphold a ceasefire, provided it is monitored by the United States. Moscow, however, remains defiant; Putin has stated that there is no need to halt military operations to facilitate dialogue.
A Battle for Survival
The most striking moment of the letter came as Zelensky delivered a blunt message to the Kremlin chief: if Putin does not conclude that it is time to end the war, Ukraine will continue to fight for its very existence. “You will also have to fight,” Zelensky emphasized. “Not for the existence of Russia, but for your own.”
